Grandma Hattie
Where It All BeganBorn in Mississippi in 1882, Grandma Hattie began bartering homemade fried pies to help provide for her growing family. Her secret was the pie crust—made with butter and plenty of love. She passed her pie-making skills to her daughters, beginning a family tradition that would live on for generations.
Lougenia
Nurturing the TraditionLougenia, Grandma Hattie’s daughter, carried her mother’s love of cooking to Kansas City, Missouri. After long days working as a housekeeper and cook, she returned home to prepare meals for her children and extended family, who shared a duplex. Known to her children and grandchildren as “Granny,” her sweet potato pies and peach cobblers became part of the family tradition she passed on to the next generation.
Hattie Mae
Carrying the Tradition ForwardHattie Mae, Grandma Hattie’s granddaughter, carried the family’s pie-making tradition to Kansas City, Missouri, where she baked pies for local restaurants. Her baking helped provide medical care for her mother and put her daughter, Angela, through college—continuing a family legacy built on love, sacrifice, and determination
Angela
Keeping the Legacy AliveAngela grew up helping Hattie Mae in the kitchen and delivering pies to local restaurants. Years later, when she started Taste the Love Cooking in Denver, she brought pies onto the menu to honor her family roots. During COVID, that tradition evolved into pie kits—creating a new way to share her family’s recipes and love with others.
